El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe
Maria Martinez develops annual programs and schedule of events for the organization with the board of directors, including the content and format for individual exhibits, events, and educational activities. She curates exhibits and oversees installation, provides jury presentations, and coordinates submissions for shows. She oversees theatrical and performance events, and provides outreach to artists, community members, and schools. As the only paid staff member of the organization, her work is critical to El Museo achieving its artistic mission.
Martinez has pursued studies in Early Childhood Education, Natural Healing, Freudian and Jungian Pyschology, Printmaking, documentation and interview methods, and Spanish translation. She has an extensive background in gallery management after 12 years as Gallery Director of Mayans Gallery. She has also worked as an independent writer, researcher, and teacher.
El Museo showcases and promotes Hispanic art, culture, and history. Their programs incorporate the traditions of Northern New Mexico, but also celebrate the culture of the larger Latin and Central American Diaspora. El Museo has a large gallery space as well a 200-seat theater facility for performing arts events. They share their facility with other organizations and host community events. They mount frequent visual arts exhibits and provide space for classes and workshops.
