Cynthia Chavez Lamar, Albuquerque

Raised in San Felipe Pueblo, Commissioner Cynthia Chavez Lamar created in clay and studied printmaking and photography for her BA. She holds an MA in American Indian Studies, and combined her interest in Native art history with museum studies for her Ph.D. in American Studies. Chavez Lamar was associate curator at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC and museum director at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque. She is Director of the Indian Arts Research Center at the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe.
