ARTSLINK NEW MEXICO

Local arts councils and rural arts organizations are invited to join us August 23 to 25 in Albuquerque for ARTSLINK NEW MEXICO, hosted by New Mexico Arts. This convening will provide access to critical skills and new concepts to promote the growth and sustainability of New Mexico’s arts organizations and communities. Breakout session topics include financial management, board development, grant writing, marketing, earned income, advocacy, rural revitalization, youth arts, leadership, and New Mexico’s Arts and Cultural Districts and Arts Trails programs.

Confirmed presenters include Betty Plumb, Executive Director of the South Carolina Arts Alliance; Steve Bailey, Jump-Start Performance Co., San Antonio, Texas; and many others.

The keynote address by Betty Plumb on the importance of advocacy on the morning of August 24 at 9 a.m. is open to nonconference participants. However, space is limited. An RSVP for the keynote is required.

Registration costs for ARTSLINK NEW MEXICO run from $20 to $35 (depends upon the meal plan as fee covers the cost of food). Space is limited. Preference is given to local arts organizations and rural arts organizations. Registration forms will be available by July 23 at www.nmarts.org or by mail or fax by calling (505) 827-6490. The registration deadline is August 6.

The conference will be held at the Madonna Retreat & Conference Center in Albuquerque at 4040 St. Joseph Place NW, Albuquerque.

A limited number of rooms at the center have been set aside for local arts councils and other rural attendees. Please contact New Mexico Arts for room availability.

Speakers

Loie Fecteau, Executive Director of New Mexico Arts, will welcome conference participants. Loie has headed New Mexico Arts and the New Mexico Arts Commission since her appointment by Governor Bill Richardson in January 2004, and has focused much of her tenure on arts-based economic development and cultural tourism, including the development of the Arts Trails Program, designed to put New Mexico artists on the map and bring the market to them, as well as the creation of state-designated Arts and Cultural Districts in partnership with the Economic Development Department's MainStreet program.

The keynote speaker for Tuesday morning is Betty Plumb, Executive Director of the South Carolina Arts Alliance (SCAA). The SCAA is a private, nonprofit statewide assembly of arts organizations, educators, administrators, businesses, and private individuals that provides advocacy, resources, and technical services.

Registration is required and space is limited. Registration will open by July 23. The registration form will be available at www.nmarts.org or you may request a registration form to be sent by mail or by fax at (505) 827-6490. Registration will close August 6.
